Parasox Find No Solution for Acid Bases

Eric Secor had four hits and scored three runs, but the Parasox could not neutralize the Acid Bases, falling 11 to 7. The Acid Bases strung together a series of two- and three-run innings to build a lead that the Parasox could not overcome.

“This was a tough loss because we played well defensively, but just couldn't generate a big inning offensively,” lamented manager Franklin Scott. “When our bats wake up, we're going to be a tough team to beat.”

An encouraging sign is the fine production the Parasox continue to get from their new players. Fresh from the Parasox's International League affiliate, the Halifax Bagel Lox, rookie Brian Leahy went two for two with three RBI in four innings. Allen Smith added two hits in three plate appearances to keep his batting average above .700.

In addition to his best pitching performance of the year, JC Beall went three for four with three runs and an RBI. After the game, Beall said, “I've been sort of inconsistent so far this year, but I hope it's just mental and that I can work through it.”

Parasox Fall 23-13 in Opener

Joe Lisitano had two home-runs and five RBI, but the Parasox failed to keep the Neag bats quiet until it was too late. Neag scored most of their runs in the early innings as the Parasox slowly awoke from the winter's hibernation.

With the game on the line in the 5th inning, though, and needing four runs to prevent the mercy rule from being applied, the Sox scored five runs. Brian Rockwood had a three-run home-run and Emily, Amanda, and Katrina had big hits to keep the inning alive. In the bottom of the fifth, new pitcher JC Beall managed to get out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam with a fly out and a double-play to extend the game.

Everyone in the lineup had a hit or a walk and the Double-Sox held Neag to just one run over the last three innings. "There's a lot of new folks this year," said skipper Franklin Scott, "and I saw a number of positives to build on."

Rookie Allen Smith wasn't intimidated in his first summer-league action, "I'm just trying to take it one game at a time and help the team win." If he and fellow rookie Emily keep up their .750 batting averages, they certainly will.
