Parasox Make Playoffs!

The Parasox learned last night they've made it to the playoffs once again this year. They'll face the Foundation Fury in the first round. The game is scheduled to be played on Tuesday, July 24th at the AG field. Parasox players were confident they could beat the Fury, especially if they can field a full team of players. Skipper Scott said he's proud to have made it into the playoffs every year he's played on the team.

Parasox End Regular Season on High Note

The Parasox finished the regular season in style by not losing to the Psychos. Not losing at all. Pitcher Brian Rockwood tossed a perfect game, allowing no runs, hits, or walks the entire night. "I brought my 'A'-game tonight and with a little luck had no problem keeping runners off the bases.

Not everything was as bright as Rockwood's pitching. The Parasox bats were mighty quiet last night and most players went without any hits whatsoever. Yet somehow James Bourbeau managed to score last night without the help of any of his teammates.

Parasox Finally Reach Potential

Franklin Scott's walk-off RBI single capped a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Parasox came back to beat the Action Potentials 12 to 11. Rookie Chuck Smith also played an important role in the comeback, hitting a towering drive that shot over the wall like a potassium ion through a hydrophobic cell membrane at peak voltage.

The Parasox needed to rally for four runs after relinquishing a four run lead in the top of the seventh. “After playing solid defense for most of the game, we let them back into the game,” said Skipper Scott. “We never should have let them get ahead, but thankfully we came away with the victory.”

It was the first victory of the season for the Parasox, who started the season with quiet bats and shaky defense. But several of the past few games indicated the team was starting to settle in to their roles. “It's nice to get our first win, but we'll be looking to move up the standing and keep improving.”

The top of the lineup built a lead through the early innings. Eric Secor and Brian Leahy combined to go 8 for 8 with five runs-scored and five RBI. Pitcher-slugger Brian Rockwood went 3 for 4 with three runs scored and several nice defensive plays off the mound. Rockwood also had a strong pitching performance. “Brian was tossing strikes like a bricklayer lays bricks,” left-fielder Leahy noted. Rockwood was rumored to have sought the advice of Donyell Marshall before the game.

Rated Rookie - Allen Smith

Despite coming from a Division III school in a northern state (Heidelberg College, OH), Allen Smith is poised to make a major impact for the Parasox this season. The organizational scouts like his toolsy, athletic makeup (Smith was also a member of the cross-country team at Heidelberg) and fierce, competitive spirit. Sabermatricians value his ability to get on-base and point to his many doubles that indicate more power in the future. If there's any worry about Smith, it's his defense since he tends to make easy catches look difficult and has an arm-slot more suited to frisbees than softballs. The P'sox, though, point out that Smith's quickness and range will allow him to adapt quickly to the level of competition in the Intramurals. Smith hails from Berea, OH and his favorite player growing up was Candy Maldonado (who ground into the first double-play Smith ever saw at Municipal Stadium).

Parasox Find No Solution for Acid Bases

Eric Secor had four hits and scored three runs, but the Parasox could not neutralize the Acid Bases, falling 11 to 7. The Acid Bases strung together a series of two- and three-run innings to build a lead that the Parasox could not overcome.

“This was a tough loss because we played well defensively, but just couldn't generate a big inning offensively,” lamented manager Franklin Scott. “When our bats wake up, we're going to be a tough team to beat.”

An encouraging sign is the fine production the Parasox continue to get from their new players. Fresh from the Parasox's International League affiliate, the Halifax Bagel Lox, rookie Brian Leahy went two for two with three RBI in four innings. Allen Smith added two hits in three plate appearances to keep his batting average above .700.

In addition to his best pitching performance of the year, JC Beall went three for four with three runs and an RBI. After the game, Beall said, “I've been sort of inconsistent so far this year, but I hope it's just mental and that I can work through it.”

Parasox Fall 23-13 in Opener

Joe Lisitano had two home-runs and five RBI, but the Parasox failed to keep the Neag bats quiet until it was too late. Neag scored most of their runs in the early innings as the Parasox slowly awoke from the winter's hibernation.

With the game on the line in the 5th inning, though, and needing four runs to prevent the mercy rule from being applied, the Sox scored five runs. Brian Rockwood had a three-run home-run and Emily, Amanda, and Katrina had big hits to keep the inning alive. In the bottom of the fifth, new pitcher JC Beall managed to get out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam with a fly out and a double-play to extend the game.

Everyone in the lineup had a hit or a walk and the Double-Sox held Neag to just one run over the last three innings. "There's a lot of new folks this year," said skipper Franklin Scott, "and I saw a number of positives to build on."

Rookie Allen Smith wasn't intimidated in his first summer-league action, "I'm just trying to take it one game at a time and help the team win." If he and fellow rookie Emily keep up their .750 batting averages, they certainly will.
